We get this question a lot! Your sneaker size will give you a good place to start but the fit between a sneaker and cowboy is too different to help much. Even within cowboy boots sizing differs between brands and decades. There is no substitute to trying them on in person. 

Most people wear boots that are too small or too narrow because we were never taught or sized by an experienced shoe salesperson. That's where we come in. You won't need to guess if they fit right with our help. Boots that smush your toes or hurt the top of your foot can lead to pain in your feet, ankles, knees, and back. A good fitting boot is important to your overall health. 

We encourage folks to try boots that are a half size to a full size bigger because you just never know. If they feel a little loose, we can add an insole (think Dr. Scholls products from walgreens). We have 3 different insoles with different thicknesses to dial in the fit and take up any extra room. This also adds some cushion since most people are used to wearing sneakers with a lot of sponginess. 

What are some defining features of your foot shape?

Most people don't know that boots come in different widths. If you notice that your pinky toe is always getting smushed, you might have a wider foot. If cowboy boots are really hard to get on and off, you might have a high instep or arch. If cowboy boots never feel snug you might have a low instep or arch. Adding insoles for low volume feet and stretching the instep and toe box for high volume feet can help a lot. 

The letter after the size number is the width (i.e. 8D or 10E). Standard width for men is D and standard width for women is C. The scale starts at AA and goes to EEE. The more letters the more narrow or wide the boot is. A very wide foot is a EEE and a very narrow foot is a AA. 

Another thing to pay attention to is how the shaft fits your leg and calves. The height of the shaft and circumference of the shaft need to match your legs and calves. If the boot fits well but is tight around your calves, we stretch the shaft to give a little more room.
